Common Questions
What is Fascia Therapy?
Fascia is connective tissue forming a web throughout the body and is considered the largest organ
(yes, recent studies are showing it is an organ!). This liquid-gel changes states and can become solid, forming restrictions that compress nerves, muscles, bones as well as the circulatory and lymphatic systems
which can lead to pain and dysfunction.
The Danis Bois Method of FasciaTherapy (DBM) was invented in France in the 1980’s and works with slow, gentle, global movements to reach profound tension in a non-intrusive way, aiding with chronic pain.
Influenced by osteopathy and physiotherapy, this technique is more like a sports massage, usually applied
clothed and without the use of oil. It also blends well with Reiki.
What kind of clothes to wear to a clothed massage?
Did you know there are many types of massage and that many styles are applied while the clients are clothed?
There are various reasons for this, including client comfortability, ease in positioning and assisted stretching.
The most ideal clothing is loose-fitting and made from natural fibers, like cotton. Stretchy yoga pants are not ideal. Women can wear shorts/sports bra. Men can wear shorts/boxers and no shirt to maximize skin-to-skin contact.
What is your preference? We are happy to work with you so your massage is the most ideal
and tailored to your desires and needs.
What is Lymphatic Drainage?
Lymphatic drainage is one of the only types of massage that is evidence based. The lymphatic system is complex and runs like watersheds all over the body, transporting lymph and connecting to the circulatory system. The lymph nodes are responsible for processing toxins and are the body’s first line of defense against infections/diseases. This important system is often overlooked but focused bodywork on it can improve the body’s overall function and can be indicated for conditions like Edema (fluid retention) & Lymphedema (the inability for the body to process lymph due to missing or impaired lymph nodes). Lymphatic Drainage is,
in fact, the only type of massage indicated as early as day one post-surgery.
This is generally light-touch, rhythmic and relaxing work applied without the use of oil.
What is Energy Work?
Reiki
A Japanese relaxation technique that translates to “Universal Life Force Energy”. It is channeled through the practitioner's hands and applied hands-off or hands-on to the client. This relaxing and warming modality can harmonize and balance the body’s energy centers - physical, and ethereal. There are no contraindications for this modality and it can be applied in combination with other treatments to increase effectiveness.
Sanación con Rosas - Rose Therapy
Roses have long been revered for their healing properties and beauty. Rose Therapy/Sanación con Rosas is a modality from Mexico created by Maestro Luiz de la Fuente that works with the delicate properties of live roses to restore balance to the mind and body. We can explore many different themes with the guidance of the roses, such as femininity, masculinity, the inner child, family matters, abundance, health and more.

What is the science behind Energy Work?
There are many theories as to how it works, but the truth is that, while dealing with the subtle body, we lack the proper scientific ability to study these techniques enough to produce quantifiable evidence.
One theory suggests that by applying some energetic techniques we are able to reduce the
sympathetic nervous system activity (fight-or-flight response) therefore increasing/encouraging the
parasympathetic nervous system activity (rest and digest/Theta State). This is the state at which the human body begins its natural process of healing/recovery, usually during restful sleep.
The body does its own healing, not the practitioner.
Do you apply oil during massage?
Fascia Therapy and Lymphatic Drainage do not traditionally use oil.
The reason for this is because we are working with the Fascial system, which is connective tissue that encompasses the entire body. When we apply oil, we lose the ability to create traction in the fascia and instead slide right over areas of tension.
The use of oil in massages can be very therapeutic and it can be blended with Fascia Therapy.
